Willem Charles is a natural born citizen of Haiti. He asked Christ into his heart at age 16 when a missionary spoke at a local church. Willem has served the Lord since 1984 and was discipled under his American pastor.
Since 1990, he has worked to train and equip the people of his country to go forth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He oversees continuous Bible studies, pastors' conferences, crusades and personal evangelism.
He speaks, read and writes Creole, French and English fluently and is a gifted translator, using his gift as unto the Lord. Other gifts include teaching, leadership and administration.
Beth Ellen Charles was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. As she recommitted her life to Christ in 1990, she began serving the Lord in various children's ministries. She developed a ministry with inner-city children, and became active in foreign mission work. She was called into the mission field of Haiti in 1991. There, she continues in ministry from her home to her family and visitors. Beth is gifted with teaching children, service to others, and administration.
Willem and Beth began their mission work in 1991. They assisted Americans before, during and after their short-term medical, construction, VBS, and evengelism teams came to Haiti. Willem soon caught a vision for more and began a Bible study.
After their marriage in 1995, Beth began teaching the children's Bible study. They also developed a discipleship class, pastors' conferences, annual crusade and lead the discipleship class on personal evangelism trips.
Willem was also instrumental in the building of a school for Haitian children by the United States military which started operations in October 1998 in that area of Haiti. These ministries continue today
Willem Charles and his wife Beth have been ministering together in Haiti since 1995. They have successful experience in conducting evangelistic crusades, Bible studies, conferences and seminars for Haitian ministers, medical mission services, and missionary training.
In 1998 Willem's vision for the work in Haiti became much more clear to him and in 1999 they became independent missionaries having the freedom to pursue the work God has put in their hearts to accomplish. Thus was begun the organization and work of Mountain Top Ministries in Haiti.
Today MTM is a non-profit 501C3 organization, registered in the state of Indiana. We are held accountable to a Board of Directors. We are dedicated to serving the people of Haiti through quality physical and spiritual education, and to preparing and equipping Haitian ministers and their families.
WHY THE NAME? Firstly, Matthew 17:1 describes Jesus taking Peter, James and John, "up a high mountain by themselves." While there, the disciples saw Jesus transformed, heard God's voice, and began learning the importance of preparing for future service. We desire for Mountain Top Ministries to be a place where people can seek God and also where they can be equipped for service in God's kingdom. Second, Beth and Willem live and minister in the mountainous region of Haiti. Willem and Beth propose to create facilities for learning, care, prayer, and prepartion for Haitian Christian workers and children, and to provide a bastion for God's light and truth in the high places of their country.
